Last updated: May 29, 2025

1. Introduction & Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Use (the "Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you (whether personally or on behalf of an entity) and Nomos Research ("we," "us," or "our") concerning your access to and use of the Nomos Research platform (the "Platform" or "Service"). The Platform is currently provided as a beta-stage, free-to-use service designed to support legal research.

By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of an entity, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that entity to these Terms. If you do not agree to all of these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.

We may update or modify these Terms from time to time at our sole discretion. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by email or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service following the publication of revised Terms constitutes your acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must discontinue use of the Service.

2. Eligibility and Acceptable Use

You may use the Nomos Research Platform only if you are at least 18 years of age and are legally capable of entering into binding contracts under the laws of Scotland. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements.

The Platform is intended for use by legal professionals, students, and researchers for lawful legal research purposes only. You agree that you will not:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful, unauthorised, or fraudulent purpose.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its related systems or networks.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Platform.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to discover the source code or underlying algorithms of the Platform.
  • Use the Service to violate any applicable law, regulation, or court order.
  • Use the Service to infringe on the rights of any third party, including intellectual property rights.
  • Introduce any malicious code, malware, or harmful content.
  • Use any automated system (e.g., bots or scrapers) without our prior written permission.
  • Represent any output generated by the Platform as being authored by a human, or fail to disclose that the content was generated by an AI system, especially in contexts where such misrepresentation causes harm or confusion.
  • Submit confidential, privileged, or personally identifiable legal information unless you are authorized to do so and have obtained all necessary rights and consents. Users remain solely responsible for ensuring they do not violate data protection laws or confidentiality obligations when inputting data.
  • Share your account credentials or allow others to access your account. Each account is intended for use by a single individual only.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service if we reasonably believe you are violating these Terms or using the Service in a way that may cause harm.

3. Description of Service & AI Capabilities

Nomos Research is an AI-powered legal research platform that leverages large language models like Gemini to allow users to query and explore Scottish statutory and case law using natural language. The Platform provides structured summaries and citations intended to assist legal professionals, students, and researchers in identifying relevant legal materials.

Important Disclaimer:

No Legal Advice.

The Platform is a research tool and is not a law firm. It does not provide legal advice, legal representation, or legal services. The information, summaries, citations, and other materials generated by the Platform are for general informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as legal advice. You understand and agree that no attorney-client relationship is created by your use of the Platform. You are solely responsible for verifying the relevance, accuracy, and completeness of any content before relying on it, and you should always consult a qualified legal professional for advice specific to your situation.

Beta Status and AI Limitations.

The Nomos Research platform is currently in beta, which means it is still under active development and may contain bugs, errors, or incomplete features. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access or perfect accuracy. The platform uses artificial intelligence to process legal information and generate responses. While we strive to provide high-quality results, AI-generated outputs may be incomplete, outdated, incorrect, or biased. These should not be relied upon without independent verification. By using the Service, you understand and accept the experimental nature of the platform and agree to use it at your own risk.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts or all of the Service at any time without prior notice. We reserve the right to introduce subscription fees or other charges for access to or use of certain features or the entirety of the Service in the future. We will provide notice of any such changes.

4. Intellectual Property

All intellectual property rights in and to the Nomos Research platform, including but not limited to the underlying software, algorithms, designs, features, functionality, content, and all related materials (collectively, the "Platform IP"), are and shall remain the exclusive property of Nomos Research or its licensors.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable licence to access and use the Platform solely for your own lawful, personal or internal business research purposes in accordance with these Terms. You may not:

  • Reproduce, copy, modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works of the Platform IP or its outputs (except as permitted under applicable law).
  • Distribute, sell, sublicense, lease, or otherwise exploit the Platform IP or any part of it commercially.
  • Remove or obscure any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices.
  • Use the Nomos Research name or logo without prior written consent.

Nothing in these Terms shall be interpreted as granting you any rights to use our intellectual property, except as expressly stated.

5. Privacy Policy

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for information on how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data. By using the Service, you agree to the terms of our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

  • No AI Model Training: Nomos Research will not use your User Input Data to train its AI models or for any purpose other than providing the services to you. Your User Input Data will not be used for any other purpose without your explicit prior written consent. This is to maintain client confidentiality and data protection.
  • Ownership of AI Output: Subject to lawful use and these Terms, you own the output generated by the AI platform in response to your User Input Data ("AI Output"). You may use the AI Output for your own lawful, personal or internal business research purposes.
